The sibyls have been a familiar subject in art for centuries in Europe while most people who live in the U.S. have never heard the word sibyls. Information about these mysterious women can be found in countless art and history books, but, until now, no one has put all of the pieces together into a fairly concise history of sibyls in the art world. Some of the artwork can be seen in major art museums, but numerous statues, paintings and engravings are scattered throughout Italy, France, Germany, England, Austria, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Spain, Mexico, and the United States. My intention is to make the artwork and the story behind it accessible to everyone.
After researching sibyls in Renaissance art for my art history degree and traveling to Italy, I began collecting fine art prints and photographs of sibyls, created by master artists. Each piece of artwork in the Galleria collection is a carefully selected, precious jewel. When the artwork is combined with the history of sibyls, the result is a treasure in art history.
